Review Portenzo iPad2 IntelliStand Case

Here’s another new product feature by Portenzo called IntelliStand. It was released last week and announced to public via email newsletter and Facebook. I got an early scoop on this new iPad2 case few months ago !! Woot !! Thanks to Scott!
I received IntelliStand case on Valentine’s Day and I couldn’t be happier.
Portenzo IntelliStand

IntelliStand is an optional feature that allows your case to stand in a comfortable way where you can snap the wood frame to the cover and thus provides firm, comfortable support. This kind of viewing is really useful whenever you are watching a movie on your iPad or showing your portfolio to your clients.
Exterior

I received a Black Morocco Faux Leather case. The interior colour is red. If you’re an active user on iPad, I would recommend you to buy the Morocco material as the grain of the material hides the scratches on the cover pretty well and I think you won’t even realize the scratches. Apart from that, on the cover, they’ve engraved my logo onto it. Logo engraving is an option where you can add it while making a purchase.
My case also came with Magna-Grip option and no elastic strap. Magna Grip gives a strong grip so whenever you flip your case downwards, the cover would not open as they have embedded super strong magnet onto it.

Interior
IntelliStand is available in two different angles. One angle is nearly 90 degrees and another angle is a bit lower.

Portenzo has constructed a new frame design and enhanced it with magnets at the back of the frame. Magnets on the back frame and on the cover will snap together and gives you the perfect position of viewing.

Here’s a photo with my iPad2 on it.

I still remember I made my first purchase with Portenzo last year and they have made improvement with this new IntelliStand case and other case as well. The multiplex birch is improved and sturdier. Camera opening is much bigger than the previous one and it is widescreen. Corners are folded very nicely.

The Audio Chamber for IntelliStand was a a bit different as well. Since this frame area is mostly covered by wood, they have cut a small area on the wood surface to fit the audio chamber.

As for the corners, they have come up with transparent corners which I think is brilliant! Can you spot it?

You won’t be having problem to access the port that’s for sure. Portenzo has individual slots for everything.

Special Trick
Portenzo has invented a unique way to switch on or off the iPad2 power button. To activate it, you need to press and hold (for 2-3 seconds) on the top right of your iPad2 . I do not found any problem with this IntelliStand case, but it may be a downside for those who have weak hand. Perhaps Portenzo can create a solution in the future by creating an effective solution yet attractive and unique at the same time.
For those who have problem on the special trick, be sure to watch this video as it shows you how to do the power activation properly. Once you are used to it, you will find it piece of cake!
Conclusion
This is a truly big improvement from Portenzo. Not just they have created IntelliStand feature for the case, but they have totally improve on the small details on the case, camera opening and audio chamber. They have built the multiplex birch frame a bit higher this time and gave us a good angle for writing mode. You will also get a free dust cloth (which I forgot to put on the case during the photo shoot).

IntelliStand is available for all Portenzo cases, from Bookcase, Bonded Leather, Composition, Teju and other leather materials. You can purchase this option at $19.95.
If you choose Bookcase with other options such as Magna-Grip, Camera Opening, and IntelliStand, you will get a total of $94.80. For these features, I would say that it is really a worth investment if you plan to use your case for a long term duration.
Honestly, I had an enjoyable experience using Portenzo IntelliStand iPad2 Case when meeting my clients. I can show my works more effectively. A truly AWESOME product by Portenzo.

Hey thanks for the review! Just wondering how strong the Magna Grip is? Does it make it too hard to open the case or is it just strong enough to keep it closed?
Hi Avante,
It’s not that hard to open the case when it has Magna Grip. When you reverse the case, the cover won’t open. So, it is a double protection for your case. It’s also an option for those who prefer not to have strap and love clean look.
If you’re planning to add Magna Grip, do add a strap as well. Without the strap, your case won’t look like a Moleskine notebook.
Do you know how much the intellistand version weighs? It looks thicker than the other ones and while it may be less likely to warp, it also looks heavier. How does the case stay when using it in the typing position with the cover flipped to the back? Thanks.
Jack, I am truly sorry for the late reply. I’m not sure how much does it weighs. It is a bit heavier than DODOcase, but it gives your iPad full protection and hides your iPad very well.
There are magnets on both cover and at the back of the wood frame. When it being flipped to the back, these magnets will snap and provides a better angle for typing.
I’ve been using this case for quite a long time now and I am very satisfied with it.
I would also like to know the weight of the item and weather there is any stand that will accommodate the ipad2 in its portenzo case. Thank you for this great review!
Hi Kimberly,
I’m not sure the exact weight of the item, you may email Portenzo or drop them a note on their Facebook page.
I don’t really get your second question, but I assume that it is about the IntelliStand?
IntelliStand is available for iPad2 and the new iPad of course.
